Senior diners began soon after Wellspring opened twenty years ago. Frank Martin took over its organisation when he retired and has been leading it for the last fourteen years.
Frank inspires a loyal and devoted team of volunteers. He still has links with Hanley market which contributes to the supply of meat and fresh vegetables.
Senior diners provides a two course meal plus tea and coffee for £4. It is very popular and over 70 people attend on the last Wednesday of the month at Wellspring.
After lunch there are general interest talks or entertainment in the church. Arthur Charlesworth has organised this for many years, Keith Jarvis has now taken on this role.
Any profit from the lunches is given to support Wellspring Youth clubs and amounts to £1000 each year. Senior Diners is an enjoyable social occasion which is much appreciated by those who attend and is an outreach to the wider community of Congleton.

Senior Diners speakers
As you now know, Senior Diners meets on the last Wednesday of the month (apart from Christmas and August). After dinner we have a speaker or entertainment, and usually 30 or 40 stay behind. Some of our speakers are local ministers, especially in the winter months, but we have singers, such as Sounds of Music from East of Stoke on Trent, Friends in Harmony from Key Green and occasional soloists and musicians. Last year Jordan, a local visually handicapped singer gave us a good programme of songs from pop stars over the last fifty years.
Our talks have varied from a Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot to a local historian (Lyndon Murgatroyd of course!) Recently we had a speaker who has travelled into Eastern Europe and Africa with the Christmas shoe boxes, an appeal run by Samaritans International.
We were encouraged by the response and delight of the children we saw on his slide presentation.
We finish in July with a speaker from the RNLI and resume again in September.
We are very thankful for those who are willing to come and share with us. Usually they have a meal with us first, so that at least one or two of us can get to know in advance what the subject will be.
If anyone has any suggestions for speakers or items, I would be grateful to hear from you.

Meals begin at 12.30pm and the speaker finishes by 2.30pm
Please get in touch with Keith if you would like to come and join us.
